You apply compassion through socially acceptable morals and ethics. Simply put, if a human mother did this, you would report her, have her arrested and other such legal engagements involving her and her offspring.

However animals that exist in nature and recognize emotions and logic unbidden by such notions. They live in a world that, quite frankly, your path doesn’t allow. Comapssion to you is more than a feeling, it is ruled by processes. The mother birds compassion isn’t, or more to say, her processes are more simplified, and what you view as pragmatic, is simply compassion without the nicities of civilization applied. There’s no welfare, no child protective services, etc.

Of course, sometimes the baby bird gets lucky and a compassionate human finds it, sometimes its a cat….

In any case, there is a huge difference between the old testament & the new one. Once Jesus was sacrificed & arose, it made everything new, the former ways have passed a way. It was in that that God made a new covenant w/man. in whosoever believe in Jesus has everlasting life. (dont mean to sound preachy)
